Although Centennial is ranked one of the most connected cities in the US, the City realized that it must continually innovate to maintain this position. The City believed a municipal fiber backbone would help drive broadband innovation, support the City's smart community programs and enhance connectivity to community anchors. The City retained Magellan Advisors to develop a comprehensive needs and opportunities assessment to build a municipal fiber backbone that achieves these goals.

Magellan assisted the City develop a Fiber Master Plan that addressed current and future opportunities to expand fiber access to community organizations, support new municipal and smart city programs and incentivize new fiber to the home deployments through broadband public-private partnerships.

Magellan's plan enabled the City to:

  • Address long-term stakeholder fiber connectivity needs
  • Support deployment of fiber to the home services through public-private partnerships
  • Expand fiber access and competition to drive new economic development
  • Keep Centennial one of the most connected cities in the Country
  • Employ a phased approach with measured public investment in fiber infrastructure

Centennial's City Council approved the first phase of fiber deployments for a total budget of $5.7 million. Engineering is underway and the network will be completed in 2017.
